Now I'm even more grateful for the comment you left today as it led me to discover your writing. This is slightly contrary to your thesis, but this is wonderfully balanced piece of writing! : ) Just enough story combined with a potent and useful idea, your own personal reflections leading into a universally human experience. I love the imagery at the beginning, something so sweet about the scene with Meredith. You are really unpacking something here that I think is so pervasive in our culture right now. Both the obsession to get everything right and then shifting that obsession to finding balance and inner peace. I love where you landed, this coined phrase really drove it home, "overthrowing the balance dictatorship." I too am learning that the real peace is knowing that there's balance and we know when to tip the scales one way or the other.
I really enjoyed an gained a lot of insight reading this essay. A search for balance can definitely turn into a problem itself. Love the story and photo of your cat. She is so cute with the stick.
